WaterAid Mask

Along with many other Adelaide based artists, I have been very lucky to be able to help raise some funds for Water Aid this year, by painting a ceramic mask. Each artist was free to choose their medium and create a piece which will be auctioned at the Gala Dinner on the 26th of July 2008. You’re most welcome to come along and help with the cause that would change the lives of many. You can read and find out more about the event on www.wateraid.org/australia/get_involved/events/default.asp or contact www.bennierfundraising.com.au for the purchase of the tickets.

I painted the mask, ‘ I AM STILL ALIVE ‘, which to me reflects the face of a person who is not blessed with the fancy materialist luxuries of the fast world and doesn’t need much but the simple basic necessities of life. I wanted to make the viewer understand that these people do not have water, do not have the luxuries of life but yet they manage to survive and live with a smile. These are important people who should not be forgotten just because they are not blessed with the best of luxuries … they might not have things they make them rich but they have a soul that’s richer than any man’s wealth … a Soul within that lives forever. I believe each soul that exists is special and very important and so it’s our responsibility to give and share what we have with the less fortunate so they can also live a better life.

I throughly enjoyed painting this piece and wish that it can raise some funds for Water Aid, because they are trying to make a difference. I feel extremely fortunate to be part of Water Aid, because I truly believe I have to help others and that’s what I am meant to do. This is my first step towards reaching out to people and helping the world in a small way… hope it continues for ever !!
